How to slp better

Been feeling tired these days. E amt of stress I face on a daily basis is equal to maybe my entire O & A level stress combined! Sigh. Nv felt so stress during sch days.

I feel tat work shd b separated from personal life. N our life shd nv revolve arnd work. Somehow these days I've not been able to stick to tis principle much. There's just too much expectations and pple I don't want to disappoint.

Anw, I dl tis rainmaker app to try help me slp better (hence less tired, enhance work performance, concentration etc.) seem to work. At least I felt quite good waking up today. And tis morn was relatively productive (before all e shit came pouring in)

Shall try continue tis regime n see if it really works (n not my cranky brain imagining stuff)

Going home to watch e pupil! N American idol tonight! Tis season's guys r so cute!!!

Here's Alexa and Russy! Russ is really notti these days. I tink it's true abt e terrible 2s man.

The adventure continues - Happy land

[wrote e following some time back but didnt complete hence didn't post but since i've alr done up e pics.. might as well.. may i just add tis is my best trip so far :)]

Amsterdam aka Happy Land is debs' fav city for our trip for obvious reasons. In comparison to Stockholm and Copenhagen, Amsterdam was much cheaper (tho' it's still expensive compared to Spore). Also lotsa bikes arnd, but we didnt bike this time. We stayed in our first bed and breakfast. The rm was beautiful, huge and clean. There was a lounge area w sofa and we had our own sink and a dining area, all in the rm. The toilet and shower was shared with tis other tenant which we nv saw. The hosts were super friendly and accomodating. They had lk maps of the area arnd their place marked with eateries/shops they recommend etc. We could also help ourselves to anyting in the fully equiped kitchen. They also left a bottle of Jenever (Holland gin) in e rm for us to enjoy. I've nv heard of this before but it taste really gd! v sweet for liquor. and keeps us warm. It was really cheap too. only 50eur per nite. They have hired help to clean our rooms daily too.

From our b&b, we had to walk thru Vondelpark to get to the 'action zone'. So tat's wat we did. It was a really nice walk thru e park. I love the silhouettes of wilted trees. I find them really beautiful. and they were all arnd e park. There were also alot of good looking pple jogging, walking their dogs etc. I wonder y they dun need to work man. or was it a wkend? i cant rem. Anw i got a shock when a HUGE dog came jumping on me. the funniest ting was, ah koh was walking in front of me and when the dog came charging, he siam to the side haha. so the dog jumped on me! luckily i didnt fall back. the owner was really apologetic. hahas.

The city is really pretty. I find houses at the sides of canel a beautiful sight. esp w the wilted trees. On our first nite in amsterdam we also witness a bridge being raised so tat a vessel can pass thru the canel. That was really interesting for us. hahas. tried to tk photo but was really dark didnt capture anyting nice.

had lotsa beer, and tried their local cuisine and of coz 'ahem'..

ok.. from here on it'll just b short captions..

back in stockholm. we went ice skating. at a real ice-skating ring! open air style. way cool man.

walked arnd museum. weather was fantastic.

went to e old town - gamla stan. place where i experience falling snow for e first time in my entire life. gonna rem tis place :)

our anni dinner.
skansen. v cool musuem where everything is lk olden days. pple working there role play (sort of). there's also a zoo in there. but tis was a really cold day. met my bro n jaime to explore.

on our way to finland!

on board e cruise ship. it's v much lk star cruise. less entertainment tho. they have a HUGE duty free shop (tink alcohol.. real cheap)

finland.. snow everywhere. had a snow fight 2 v 2. nearly died there. hahas.
snacking at e xmas market.

back in stockholm. bunked at bro's hostel. looked so diff fr e first nite we bunked there.

kiruna!! my fav part of e trip. us at ice hotel. e overall suit that they loaned us really saved me. if not i would not have returned alive. for sure. how can we not have a drink at e all famous absolute bar. but e drink was really nice. coz there's no need to add ice to e drink.. hence it's not diluted at all. drinking out of e ice glass is really nice experience :) e bartender was kinda cute too :)

every rm had a diff theme. was amazing wat these pple can make out of ice/snow.

there was still a wing under construction (thru e tunnel in e centre pic).

tis was e airport (sorry e sequence is not right but too lazy to arrange)

us on snow mobile. on e night tat i v nearly froze to death. -25 degrees? cant quite rem exactly. just imagine e coldest ever ever ever! n imagine we were on e snow mobile.. e wind was brutal! our eyelashes were all frosted!! n to make tings worse. our guides were lost!! we were in e middle of Thorne river waiting while 1 of e guides went out to look for our cabin. to keep ourselves warm, we jogged arnd. it was really cool actually, we were just cruising on e frozen river. could really drive pretty fast since there is nothin arnd.

our v friendly n interesting guides cooking us dinner. how i envy their lifestyle. btw, tat meal was god damn gd.

outside of our cabin. we were opted for a wilderness package. so it was really just us n noone else. our cabin was stocked w lotsa food n drinks. we were v kiasu.. we actually brought lk 6packs of instant noodle n 6packs of beer.. hahas... tinkin there's nothin to buy arnd.. n we were not sure wat they'll feed us (i dont tink i can eat reindeer meat every meal). turned out.. we left all those there for e nxt occupants. they gave us beer/wine/chips/pre-mixed food (which we basically only need to heat n they taste YUM)
activities we did there. it was so freaking cold out there. we couldnt last more than half hr outside everytime.

food tat we cooked ourselves. really enjoyed e 3 relaxing days we had at e cabin. we tot there'll b no electricity in e cabin hence we didnt bring any gadgets. so we were really cut off for 3 days. BLISS i tell u. but anything more we'll prob b bored. but i really loved cooking n napping n lazing by e fire n goin out for walks.

us making snow angels. bottom left is tis ting tat freaked me. haha. it was outside our bedrm window. hahas. looks lk a skeleton crawling out of e snow rt!!

arnd e hse.

look at all e gear we had to put on everytime we went out. loved e fireplace!

different parts of e hse. it was huge for e 2 of us though. 3 bedrms. we slpt in e same rm all e 3 nites. we saw northern lights all 3 nites. we were lucky lucky! but to tell e truth. i was more blown away by e starry stars. i mean it really just left me speechless n breathless. it was tat beautiful. we would just lay on e snow n look up in e sky. it's just so dark arnd. e stars r so near i felt lk they were within my reach!! e only star constellation i know is e orian belt. n it was not directly up, it was abt 45 degrees n it was so near!! LOVED it. really. best part of e trip!

back in stockholm stayed at a different b&b tis time. we stayed in e sodermalm area. it was a more artsy area. v interesting

end of trip! all in all, we reallly had a great time. didnt buy anyting for ourselves coz it was really not worth it. but i wouldnt say tat we scrimped on e trip lar in terms of food. we drank alot when we were there too. oks. i dont tink i'll b back. at least not soon. (mayb norway tho) loved e vibe there. n everyone speaks real gd eng. n they all damn gd looking! oks. everyone shd go! gogogo!

The adventure continues - Copenhagen

On with our second and last day in Copenhagen.. and what better way to explore the bike city than joining a bike tour? So we did some last min googling and decided to join Mike's Bike tour. It's a daily tour where e guide, Mike, brings pple arnd the city on bikes. if you want to join u just appear at the bike shop beside the train station at 1030am. Problem was he didnt turn up. After waiting for lk 45 min and we getting the helpful pple at e bike shop call him couple of times, we gave up.
In the end we decided to go on our own bike tour. With 2 other new frens we made (both wanted to join e bike tour too), Josh and Hans. Hans' parents are Danish (tho' he stays in US) hence he has been to Denmark many times, so he was e navigator of our tour. Josh was a student studying in US and was in town to kapo about COP15. It was an unexpected turn of events but nonetheless v enjoyable. It was really interesting to hear abt their travel/life stories too.

Copenhagen is really bike friendly and most of the streets in the city has a bike lane. There are many pple biking and you really feel safe tho' cars r just zooming past right by you. Strangely, both Koh and I didnt feel tired/aches after all the cycling. I guess it's really the weather, cant tink of any other reasons.

We covered most of the city (courtesy of the bike shop pple who shared with us Mike's bike tour route) but frankly i know nuts abt wat we saw. in fact, right now i only rem the little mermaid, tis other statue beside e mermaid, with a fat man sitting on a thin man, the Stroget, Nyhavn, tis star-shaped island.

We had lunch at one of the restaurants along Nyhavn (this famous street along the canal). Debs had one of his fav meal of his entire trip. He had a 'smorrebrod' which simply means open sandwich, with pickled herring. He totally feel in love with pickled herring and was always on a lookout for it.

After lunch we bid gdbye to our newfound frens and went to catch our plane to Happy Land (Amsterdam)!!!

- to be continued -

Saturday, December 12

i am back..

for how long.. i duno.. at least for this trip i guess :)
want to record down the stuff i did so that i have somewhere to refer to when my memory fails me (which is like all the time)

anw.. lets start w my 5-yr anni! (which is today/yday depending on which timezone we're talking abt) been w debs for 5 years now..
we were trying to recall how we celebrated our anni e past 4 yrs and we both couldnt rem!
sigh.. so we re-read my blog! haha. but out of e 4 yrs i only blogged abt 1 yr's anni,
so the other 3 yrs are still a mystery to us, and will prob remain that way.

this yr, for our 5 yr anni, we picked a nice chic restaurant, vapiano, which we spotted walking arnd yday in stockholm in the ostermalm area. in fact, it took us lk a while to realise it was a restaurant coz e e interior was so cool and modern.
the crowd was young and and the whole atmosphere was good.
e ordering style is somewhat like marche/shokudo (we only found out after we went in)
so we were each given a card and could choose any area to sit
we ordered a pasta, the chef cooks right before you with fresh ingredients and sauces.
we also ordered a pizza. they used the beeping device tat beeps when your food is ready so you dont have to wait arnd. so far ive only seen it in e US. we also had some local beer (duno wat we drank). hahas.
den on to part 2 which is just champagne, our fav, asti martini.
over here, it's like in US where they have specialised shops selling liquor.
according to my bro, the suppermarkets are only allowed to sell liquor up to alcoholic content of 5%. to buy liqour/wine/beer with higher alcoholic content, you gotta go to the specialised shops called system bologet.

anw.. 5 yrs is an aweful long time! cant believe we made it so far.
i asked debs during tis entire period, when he tinks we were most happy, and he said now.
reason-we have money to do wat we wan now, eg. our trip to scandinavia
for me, i guess the happiest period would have to be when we got tog, coz everyting was fresh, new and exciting back den :)
i guess we are both happy with the way tings are now, thats wat's most impt.

ok.. time to post abt the trip.

DAY 1
First day in stockholm! From the airport, we took a real fast train called Arlanda Express to the city centre. took 15 min and it was so clean and efficient. Pple in this region are really huge on conservation/recycling. The heaters/radiators they use for winter is actually the by-product heat that comes from their industrial plants. They also give you incentive to recycle your bottles and cans by placing machines in supermarts where you can recycle these and get cash back. Pple in this region cycle alot too! (more later).

My bro n his gf, Jaime, came to the central station to meet us. and after a quick (but expensive) lunch, we headed to his university. Extremely pretty! too bad no pics to show. but just imagine the sch buildings/hostels are spread out across a huge piece of land and everywhere you turn looks lk something that came out of e postcard. sigh. if you put me here i def will look forward to sch everyday!

so after putting down our luggage and putting on more layers of clothes, my bro brought us arnd the city centre.

We came by a xmas market selling all kinds of xmasy stuff.
it is actually v similar to our CNY market in chinatown, except that instead of pussy willow, they have xmas trees, instead of the dried sausages/ducks they have salmon/cheese/meat. There was a huge open air ice skating ring too! ryan and i went back another day to skate! hahas. e whole atmosphere was really warm and nice. they also had these stands with burning logs where you can warm your hands. v cool.

for dinner, my bro wanted us to have a uniquely swedish experience so he suggested bbq-ing (alternative to camp fire).
we went to e mart bought some chicken fillet/potatoes/salmon/falukorv (traditional swedish sausage made of pork and beef, traditionally it is made of horse meat, lucky for us, this is not the case now, btw this is mad delicious!! lk damn yumyum!!).
we prepared the food and went for a short hike through the forest and came to a 'camp site'.
it was by a lake and it was pitch dark by e time we got there. totally eerie!!
anw, e food was good and it was a really different experience.
the weather is so cold that having e charcoal burning is so soothing and warm, unlike in spore so sticky and hot. after dinner,
we went back to his hostel to have a round of drinking game.
didnt noe my bro's gf could drink so well.
we spent the first nite bunkin in w my bro and i totally concussed coz of e jet lag

DAY 2

We caught an early flight to Copenhagen the nxt day. we were there just 1 day before the start of the COP 15 hence there was alot of buzz all over the town, right from the airport when we landed. and coz of the COP15 the accom there was so limited and ex. luckily we got our air tix at a reasonable price. But it's really v interesting coz of COP15. there were posters everywhere, the WWF artic tent with the melting polar bear and the future city and the prep of the hopenhagen concert. Everyting, everywhere and everyone were pretty hyped up! too bad we didnt have time to head down to the Bella Centre which was the centre of all the action. Our first meal there we tried a Danish restaurant, pretty good food but e portions were enormous! and coz we were cold and hungry, ah koh opted for the buffet and ended up so full from lunch tat we didnt have dinner. first day in copenhagen was just spent walking at the stroget, which is tis long pedestrain street w lotsa shops. did i already mention that tings here are freaking ex? lk FREAKING ex!! hahas. we obviously did not buy anyting coz everyting here we could get in spore for cheaper!our lunch alr cost us abt 70-80 sing! (ok lar, it was a gd lunch n we had drinks.. haha)

As mentioned, the accom was real expensive. we manage to get ourselves a budget hotel and that cost lk $190 a nite. it's called CABINN hotel. so as u can imagine, the room is wat u would typically get in a cruise cabin. haha. real tiny but ok lar.. clean and was a gd resting place for our tired legs!

some pics of the events from the COP15.. first day was spent just walking arnd aimlessly till there was no more daylight (abt 4pm?)

more later.. haven uploaded the pics. im already at day 8 of my trip alr! almost at e halfway mark! yikes!!!
